Sexual violence – Sandrine Josso accused Senator Joël Guerriau of drugging her with a view to sexually assaulting her in November 2023

It is a sordid affair that shocked France and put the spotlight on a practice: chemical submission. Until December 13, the criminal court of Vaucluse is trying 51 men accused in particular of raping Gisèle Pélicot in the Mazan affair. To rape her and have her raped by other men, her husband and tormentor, Dominique Pélicot, used chemical submission.

This process involves administering psychoactive substances to the victim with the aim of committing an offence or crime. Loire-Atlantique MP Sandrine Josso, who accused Senator Joël Guerriau of this practice in November 2023, said on BFMTV that she wanted society to “unite against chemical submission”. The elected official denounced a “public health scourge” since the Mazan case trial, which she is following, in Avignon.

Sandrine Josso praised Gisèle Pélicot’s courage: “What she did is remarkable, it allows the whole of France, the whole world to realize to what extent chemical submission is the tree that hides the forest of sexual violence.” For Sandrine Josso, this case allows us to uncover “a blind spot” of violence against women.
