HAS At a time when households are showing caution in the face of an uncertain economic context, Corsican teenagers are clearly escaping the consequences of inflation. While the average amount of pocket money given each month by parents has fallen by 2 euros in one year in France, young islanders seem to be spared from this trend.

With an average monthly budget of 39 euros, Corsican children are at the top of the podium of the “richest” in the country. Ahead of young people from Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (33 euros) and Île-de-France (30 euros), and well above the national average established at 29 euros for 10-18 year-olds — while Bretons make do with 25 euros per month. This is what emerges from the barometer carried out by the Teenage Lab of Pixpay, a start-up specializing in payment cards for teenagers.

This year, the average amount of pocket money has fallen everywhere in France “for the first time in four years,” notes the neobank for teenagers. Except in Corsica. Higher consumer prices on the island than on the continent – ​​around 7%, according to an INSEE survey in 2022 – can partly explain this phenomenon.
