Cold case – Carmen Van Huss, 19, was raped and stabbed to death 61 times on March 24, 1993 in Indiana, but the crime went unpunished.

Thirty-one years after the rape and murder of a young woman in Indianapolis, US, US authorities have finally caught a suspect. Dana Shepherd, 52, was arrested this summer and then incarcerated in Missouri following new investigations based on DNA, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement relayed by CBS News.

Carmen Van Huss, 19, was found dead in her apartment by her father on March 24, 1993. An autopsy showed that the college student had been sexually assaulted and stabbed 61 times. “We hope that after all this time, people will understand how brutal my sister’s murder was,” the victim’s brother told WTTV, adding that the tragedy had shaken his entire family.

He lived in the same residence as the victim

Several leads had been explored since the tragedy, in vain. To identify Dana Shepherd, investigators submitted a DNA sample taken at the crime scene to a private company in 2018. Then,(…) - 20minutes
