For sale for $499,999: This 60-square-meter home near Los Angeles has entered the California real estate market after it was partially destroyed in May when a giant pine tree fell on it.

The incident did not cause any injuries. The two tenants and their dogs got out through the back door in time.

But the house remained in ruins, or rather “good for renovation” according to real estate jargon.

After the tree and debris were removed, the house looked like a dilapidated dollhouse, with a sad wall still standing between two old rooms now left exposed.

Yet Kevin Wheeler, the real estate agent in charge of the sale, is confident: “Here in California, we like to live both indoors and outdoors. [La maison] “It fits perfectly with the local culture. An open floor, now that the tree’s been removed, there’s lots of light and all that,” he jokes.

He acknowledges, however, that for people in other parts of the United States or abroad, the half-million-dollar price tag seems a bit steep.

But with high demand and limited supply in Southern California, Mr. Wheeler is in real demand. He has already taken several potential buyers to see the house.
