The president of the FNSEA regrets that “since June 9, we no longer talk about agriculture”

The president of the FNSEA, Arnaud Rousseau, has launched an appeal to the future government and calls for it to tackle the issue of agriculture head on.

The dissolution has put a stop to things. “Since June 9, we have not talked about agriculture anymore,” regrets the president of the FNSEA, Arnaud Rousseau, on Tuesday, September 3. “This is not acceptable, we need a response through the law.”

Following the agricultural crisis that shook France, the president of the leading agricultural union is appealing to the future government to tackle the issue of agriculture head on.

Because time is pressing according to him. “We have lost 600,000 farmers in 20 years (…), Arnaud Rousseau recalls at the microphone of Classic RadioThis bill aimed to guarantee an income for farmers, to make the profession attractive, to encourage people to start a business.”

“Selling above production costs”

Before the dissolution of the National Assembly, an agricultural bill was in fact being prepared in Parliament. “It was voted on in first reading but now it is suspended,” he continues.

“The level of expectation is extremely high and the degree of urgency requires an imminent response,” warns Arnaud Rousseau.

The president of the FNSEA insisted on the importance of not relocating production within the framework of food sovereignty.

“We don’t want for agriculture what happened to industry years ago,” he warns.

He also mentioned farmers’ income and sales prices. “We need to be able to sell to manufacturers above our production costs like any other business leader.” Consequently, “the consumer will have to agree to pay the right price”, even if he mentioned “the conditions of purchasing power which are difficult at the moment”.
