The Bernese cantonal police received a message shortly before a quarter to one on the night of Saturday to Sunday indicating that an accident had occurred in Saanen, near Gstaad (BE). Arrived on the spot, the intervention forces found a wrecked car and two people. Another car left the road during the accident and ended its race in the Sarine.

Other patrols were immediately called in for reinforcement. Rescuers found no one inside the second car or in the immediate vicinity. The search for possible occupants has been extended. The area along the Sarine was searched, in particular with the help of a police dog. A research flight was carried out by Rega. The car was pulled out of the water early Sunday morning with a tractor.

Two slightly injured, the search continues

The police specify that according to the current state of knowledge, a frontal collision occurred in a right turn. The car, which was traveling from Saanen towards Rougemont, overturned following the impact and ended its race in the Sarine after falling several meters. The two occupants of the other car were slightly injured and taken to hospital by ambulance for a check-up. The road between Saanen and Rougemont was closed until early morning.

Various patrols and special services of the Bernese cantonal police, intervention forces of the Vaud cantonal police, members of the fire brigades of Saanen and Lausanne, a Rega team, members of Secours Alpin Suisse as well as two ambulance crews responded. The search for possible occupants of the second vehicle continues.
