The countdown is on: if you own a vehicle and take the motorway, you have until January 31 to acquire a sticker for 2025. Because if you forget to buy the precious ticket, it will cost you one fine of 200 francs, plus of course the 40 francs to pay to buy the sticker. Since August 1, 2023, it has been possible to acquire it in digital form. No need to go to a gas station, for example, it can be purchased at any time via the internet. This is an advantage for those who are adept with online shopping. For those who are less familiar, it can be more complicated.
A priori, everything seems simple, you just need to go to the e-vignette.ch site, entirely managed by the Confederation, which then links to the site via.admin.ch. These platforms are managed by the Federal Office of Customs and Border Security (OFDF). First problem, these sites were down last Wednesday, for several hours. Was this linked to Russian cyberattacks, which aimed to make certain Swiss websites, such as those of the Confederation, unavailable? “The site is working properly again. There are no more faults to report. However, a maximum waiting time of four minutes may be noted during payment. This type of inconvenience with the payment interface is known during peak purchases; it’s a problem similar to buying concert tickets, for example,” replies Donatella Del Vecchio, spokesperson for the OFDF. As the January 31 deadline approaches, it is possible that the website will become congested again.
