The Herminia storm arrived on the west coast of France this Sunday, January 26, causing violent winds and rain in Normandy. Winds of up to 126 km/h were recorded at Granville (Manche). The departments of Calvados and Orne are placed on orange alert for floods until Monday and the entire region is on yellow alert for wind for two days.

From Saturday, rivers overflowed after a night of heavy rain, like in Beuvron-en-Auge (Calvados) where residents had their feet in the water in the afternoon. Housing estates were flooded the same day in Argences (Calvados), water from the Muance river penetrating the ground floor of some houses. In the village, theResidents helped each other to bail out and place sandbags in front of the front doors.

The municipalities of Mézidon-Vallée-d'Auge and Saint-Pierre-en-Auge, near (Calvados), saw several of their roads and fields invaded by water. In Norman Switzerland, the Orne burst its banks in the Clécy sector (Calvados), flooding several buildings. Less significant overflows were observed in Condé-en-Normandie (Calvados). Calvados and Orne municipalities located on the banks of rivers, in particular those crossed by the Orne river, remain under surveillance until Monday.

On the north side of the Seine, river water overflows occurred in the area of Gournay-en-Bray (Seine-Maritime) on Sunday morning without causing major damage.

This situation impacts rail transport, with the SNCF having announced train cancellations on Sunday evening and Monday morning. On the Calix viaduct, on the ring road, the speed has been limited to 50 km/h. Vehicles over two meters in height are prohibited from driving there until further notice.
