Renewal of the BAD-USTDA partnership to strengthen infrastructure in Africa

The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the American Agency for Trade and Development (USTDA) have renewed their strategic partnership for an additional five -year period. This renewal, formalized by a memorandum of understanding, aims to strengthen the development of quality infrastructure in Africa by harmonizing markets with markets with international best practices, thus creating a more competitive and transparent environment.

The agreement also formalates the current collaboration to build a reserve of bancable projects likely to benefit from the project preparation subsidies offered by the USTDA. This initiative is part of a common desire to promote sustainable and inclusive development on the African continent.

This renewed partnership puts particular emphasis on the capacity building of African institutions in terms of public procurement. The objective is to improve the efficiency and transparency of processes, thus facilitating the attraction of investments and the successful implementation of infrastructure projects in strategic sectors such as energy, transport, digital and health.

This partnership is part of the Global Procurement Initiative (GPI) of USTDA, launched in 2013, which aims to help states better understand the total cost of possession of goods and services for infrastructure projects. This initiative has already been adopted by 16 partner countries.

The extension of this agreement between the BAD and the USTDA testifies to their common commitment to promoting modern and effective infrastructure, while strengthening local capacities and stimulating the integration of American companies into development projects in Africa.
