Adem had 19,532 job seekers available at the end of December 2024, or 1,334 more than in December 2023 (+7.3%). This is the first time since February 2021 that the 19,000 mark has been crossed again. The record dates from April 2020 (20,253), in full confinement due to Covid-19.
This increase particularly concerns job seekers registered for seven months or more, those over 30 and the most qualified. The IT and banking professions are among the most affected. “In one year, we observed a sharp drop in the number of vacant positions in these sectors (-19.3% in IT professions and -39.6% in banking),” explains the statistics department of the Adem to The essentials.
The Employment Development Agency also notes a gap between the skills of job seekers and the qualifications sought by recruiters. “Companies are looking for increasingly specialized profiles. Even qualified candidates may find themselves without opportunities matching their specific skills.”
-The drop in the number of declared vacancies mainly impacts the accounting and construction finishing professions. “The economic situation has led to a slowdown in business support activities, prompting companies to be more cautious in their recruitment. The construction sector is strongly influenced by the slowdown in the real estate market and the postponements of construction projects,” underlines Adem. As in November 2024, the unemployment rate in December remained stable at 5.9%.
