don't get tricked, here is the mandatory paper for your car

Of the 2025a big change is looming for motorists in : the green sticker on the windshield is over! This choice is part of a desire to simplify and modernize administrative procedures related to auto insurance. For drivers, this means less paperwork and simpler and more efficient digital management.

Why is keeping the old system a problem?

The current system with its green stickers is not without its flaws. These small labels often become obsolete even before their expiry date because policyholders can cancel their contract at any time. As a result, the information displayed is no longer up to date.

In addition, checking that all vehicles are properly insured remains a headache. Roadside checks are often complicated by false insurance certificates which make it difficult for police to know whether a car is truly covered or not.

Digital enters the scene: what are the benefits?

Going digital has several advantages. No more obligation to renew or display a sticker on your windshield, so less risk of fines for those who forget. It also allows insurers to better monitor their contracts thanks to real-time monitoring of subscriptions, cancellations and other changes, thus contributing to the fluidity of traffic.

The Insured Vehicle File (FVA) now replaces the green sticker to check whether a car is insured. This file contains all valid car insurance contracts in France and is accessible to law enforcement during their checks. With the FVA, all you have to do is enter the vehicle registration number to have all your insurance information immediately.

And some insurers are showing innovation with a QR code to stick on car windshields. Connected directly to the FVA, this code makes it even easier to verify insurance during checks.

How to stay up to date? Some tips for you

For the FVA to always be accurate, insurers must update the data within a maximum of 72 hours after each subscription or modification of contract. While waiting for this update, a temporary document called “Memo” is provided to drivers. It is advisable to keep this paper until your situation is properly recorded in the FVA.

This transition not only improves our administrative procedures; it also pushes each driver to think about their role in this collective evolution towards the technological future. Adopting these new practices today could well be synonymous with more peaceful driving tomorrow.
