Mozambique has approved a major mangrove restoration project across the country. Two hundred million mangrove trees are to be planted over the next sixty years by the company Blue Forest, which is leading the project.

According to Vahid Fotuhi, the founder of Blue Forest, it all started in 2022: “ ohas been around theAfrica to identify the mangrove forests that are under the most stress and that’s where we discovered that indeed the Mozambique is a country that has huge mangrove forests, but at the same time, little by little these forests are starting to disappear. »

Along the country’s 2,000 km of coastline, the observation is the same: the mangrove has been damaged or has disappeared due to deforestation and poor management of the resource.

However, it plays a vital role, recalls Vahid Fotuhi: “ These mangrove forests are a protection against cyclones and other climatic disasters. At the same time, they are habitats that are essential for fish, crabs and other aquatic elements. So it is very important to protect these forests. »
