The City of Paris is launching phase 2 of the Cycling Plan! After a first program (2015-2020) with 150 million euros, the new 2021-2026 plan further strengthens the place of cycling in Paris and continues the development of a city designed for cyclists.
The Cycling Plan 2021-2026 of the city of Paris is part of the continuity of the initiatives carried out to make the capital a 100% cycle-friendly city! With a budget of 250 million eurosthe Cycling Plan aims to transform Paris into a cycling cityaccessible to all.
This plan provides for the development of 180 kilometers of cycle paths additional, in particular by extending the “coronapistes” created during the health crisis and representing 52 km of tracks. The objective is, according to City of Paristo constitute a continuous and secure cycling network, connected to the entire metropolis.
Among the priorities, we also find the creation of dedicated parking spaceswith 130,000 new spaces for bicycles, including secure parking near train and public transport stations. The number of bicycle thefts has actually increased in recent years, and the City of Paris wish to implement more viable solutions. The Cycling Plan also places emphasis on development of cycling serviceswith aid for the purchase of electric bikes, subsidized repairs and training to encourage the practice.
The City of Paris therefore has a double ambition with the Cycling Plan: reduce car use and strengthen the role of cycling in the daily lives of Parisians, while contributing to the ecological objectives of reducing CO2 emissions. A major challenge for a capital in full transition towards a more sustainable mobility !
