The second generation of the DS 4 appeared in 2021. The tricolor premium compact sedan which crosses paths with the Audi A3 Sportback, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes A Class derives closely from the Peugeot 308. But unlike the lioness, the DS 4 does not yet offer a 100% electric engine. This will be done at the time of the restyling which will take place in the spring.

The cosmetic operation will be clearly visible, the DS 4 which will become DS N°4 for the occasion will feature a bright and full grille in the spirit of that of its big sister DS N°8. Gone is the mesh grille dating from the days of the DS 7 Crossback and DS 9.

The arrival of the 100% electric version

Under the hood, the plug-in variant will differ from a simple Peugeot E-308 with 156 hp, the electric machine will be that of the Peugeot E-408 offering a power of 210 hp. Powered by a battery with a capacity of 61 kWh, this mechanism should offer a range of around 450 km. The rest of the range will be based on 136 hp petrol micro hybrid versions, 130 hp diesel and 225 hp plug-in hybrid versions.

Prototypes in the development phase were recently on a Stellantis industrial site. For the record, the current DS 4 is assembled in the Opel factory in Rüsselsheim in Germany, which will always be the case for the DS N°4. The sophisticated lighting signature of the DS 4 will be simplified on the DS N°4. At the rear the restyling will be much less visible, the designers under the leadership of Thierry Metroz had less latitude.

A screen disappears

On board, there will also be changes, not sure that the steering wheel with four diagonal spokes introduced by the DS N°8 will make its appearance, the flagship could retain its prerogative. On the other hand, according to our information, the touch screen located near the power selector between the seats will disappear.

This interface that the DS 4 did not share with its technical cousins ​​Peugeot 308 and Opel Astra whose usefulness was really limited – and which for a time had to be perfected and deployed on other models of the brand – will not be renewed. The driver and passenger will have to make do with digital instrumentation and a panoramic touch screen.
