The Irish town of Portlaoise has been facing strange acts of vandalism in recent days. A man calling himself “the snowman killer” took great pleasure in driving around the town and destroying any snowy creation that stood in his way. The current conditions being particularly conducive to this type of activity, the children are having a blast in their garden, especially since it very rarely snows in Ireland.
This temporary exhibition of snowmen, igloos and other sculptures is clearly not to the taste of a certain David Ire. On YouTube, the individual published a video entitled “Do you want to make a snowman?”, in which he advised his neighbors to hide their sculptures or risk seeing them destroyed. The young man’s strange punitive operation dismayed the population, with some citizens contacting the local press to express their outrage. “For some children, this is their first snowman. I saw my neighbor’s son crying in the morning because of this, and it breaks my heart,” protested a resident.
Independent Portlaoise County Councilor Tommy Mulligan also said he was outraged: “This individual has crossed the line. Children and families enjoyed the snow and made memories by building these snowmen. They put a lot of time and effort into it. The last thing a child wants to see is someone destroying their creative work.” The fact remains that the young man does not risk much, apart from making a few enemies in the neighborhood.
