The year 2025 begins with a direct debit for millions of French people. Clearly, the bad news keeps coming. Indeed, once again, consumers will have to make efforts to protect their purchasing power. Right and left, prices continue to increase.
They can turn their heads any way they want, it's always the same song. Motorway fares, insurance, gas, prices continue to increase. And this, while inflation has been slowing down for a year. At the start of the year, January 15 to be precise, It is the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP) which will make a deduction from the bank accounts of millions of people.
Why such a levy in January?
This is not a surprise collection. But those who forget it, obviously, risk having a bad surprise. Indeed, on Wednesday January 15, some owners will see the DGFiP intervene on their account. But not all owners. This only concerns those who opt for monthly payment of their property tax.
This category today represents 35% of real estate ownersor nearly 11.7 million taxpayers (2023 figures from the DGFiP).

Bad news, this tax collection could increase in 2025
If this monthly deduction is a regular appointment for these owners, the increase in the amounts from January 2025 risk of creating some confusionor even unpleasant surprises for those who neglected to consult their tax notice.
Rising levies
In 2024, owners received a letter from the DGFiP detailing the total amount of their property tax. This document specified in particular the amounts remaining to be paid for November and December 2024 and the new monthly payments applicable for the entire year 2025.
Thus, from January, withdrawals will increase. In fact, this is not surprising. Property taxes have been increasing for years. The majority of taxpayers will see their monthly payments increase by an average of 3.9%.although in some municipalities the increase could be even greater.
Two factors explain this increase, more modest than last year. First, the revision of local rates (municipalities freely adjust their taxation). Then, the revaluation of the cadastral bases. The increase for the latter is therefore 3.9%. We will have to expect a withdrawal, at least, greater by this same percentage.
Anticipate to avoid unpleasant surprises
To avoid any inconvenience, we advise owners to find their September 2024 property tax notice. At the bottom of the first page, they can find the monthly payment schedule for 2025.

Savings accounts: this automatic tax deduction not to be missed at the end of the year
This will make it possible to better anticipate withdrawals between January and October and to avoid inconveniences regarding this increase. With this increase, Homeowners will need to adjust their budget to accommodate higher monthly deductions.
They are obviously sorry about it. After all, every year the fixed costs they have to bear keep increasing. And this obviously has consequences for tenants. The latter note the increase in rental prices.
In France, in 2025, it will still be very difficult to find housing at attractive prices. It goes to show that the crisis is not really behind us yet.
