(Agence Ecofin) – The historic operator Algérie Télécom is positioning itself as a key partner of the government in the digital transformation of the country. Recently, it partnered with telecom Djezzy to launch an all-in-one service offering.
This week, Algérie Télécom launched a hybrid offer combining fixed telephone and high-speed Internet services for very small businesses (VSEs) as well as liberal professions. Called MOOHTARIF, this initiative is aligned with the strategy of the historic operator to “ contribute to the digital transition of economic players ».
« With the launch of the MOOHTARIF offer, Algérie Télécom reaffirms its commitment to supporting very small businesses and liberal professions by providing them with reliable and efficient connectivity solutions adapted to their growing needs. ».
It comes in a context of digital transformation where more and more African companies are striving to adopt technological tools. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) believes that digitalization can enable these companies, in all sectors, to become more productive, more profitable and better integrated into global, regional and local value chains.
It should be noted, however, that the new offer from the historic Algerian operator presents some limits which could slow down its adoption. The installation costs, which are 2000 dinars (around $15, but free for a higher subscription of at least 3 months) with modem payable by the customer for ASDL/VDSL and 6000 dinars for fiber, as well as the cost of the service (14,200 dinars for fiber) can constitute a barrier for certain small businesses.
In addition, areas not covered by fiber will have to make do with reduced speeds due to ADSL or VDSL technologies. Finally, poorly covered or unserved regions will not be able to access the offer.
