Another hard blow for Saint-Roch: closure of La Cordée

The adventure of La Cordée, in the Saint-Roch district, was short-lived. Less than three years after the opening of the sporting and outdoor goods store, the brand closed its doors on rue Saint-Joseph Est, already shaken by at least two other closures, including the most recent, the Benjo toys.

After the Laliberté and Benjo stores, it is now the turn of La Cordée to close its doors. The spaces that will be left vacant belong to Mach Capital, a major real estate player in the Quebec region who will need to find a buyer to occupy these vast premises.

The company, which is headed by businessman Vincent Chiara, also owns the buildings that were occupied by Laliberté and Benjo. La Cordée was inaugurated in April 2022.

According to -, a collective dismissal notice dated January 7 was posted on the door of the business. In total, 14 employees are affected by the layoff notice. It is mentioned that La Cordée will concentrate its activities in Quebec in the La Cordée business on Bouvier Street, formerly La Vie sportif.

This closure comes just two months after the announcement of the closure of the Benjo toy store which will cease its activities at the end of the month.

Mach Capital acquired La Cordée in 2020 which was then bankrupt with the intention of expanding into Quebec, which led it to open a store in Saint-Roch in the premises formerly occupied by Mountain Equipment Co-op which also continues its activities near Lebourgneuf.
