Members of the Moroccan Confederation of Industrial Pelagic Fishing Shipowners (COMAIP) brought together their governing bodies last Tuesday to address the issues of monitoring sustainability and responsible fishing, as well as the impact of the latest decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).
This meeting comes following the unanimous adoption of an ethical charter last September. The shipowners also addressed the subject of the rise of the industrial ecosystem and their active participation in the national effort to promote employment, particularly for young people, in the region of Dakhla-Oued- Eddahab. In this area, they decided to set up an ad hoc working group responsible for developing a roadmap “which must enable members to combine economic efficiency and social efficiency, with concrete proposals allowing them to participate in the socio-economic dynamics of the country”indicates a press release from COMAIP.
This meeting also made it possible to examine a report prepared by its committee in charge of strategy on the potential impact of the decision rendered by the European Court of Justice (CJEU) dated October 4, 2024. This document defines the extent of the consequences of the CJEU decision on the activities of the zone as well as the possible scenarios to respond to them. Recommendations will also be sent to the public authorities soon.
“Dakhla’s pelagic shipowners and industrialists continue to be committed to the socio-economic development of the region and are firmly determined to meet the challenges of sustainability, responsibility, as well as regulatory developments in export markets, including “European Union”, declared the President of the Confederation, Mohamed Lamine Hormatollah. “All COMAIP members have once again reiterated their unfailing commitment to supporting the Royal vision of a prosperous and environmentally friendly Africa-Atlantic facade,” he noted.
