Think big sti!
I would have taken a bit of Elvis Gratton this week, just for a laugh, to remind myself that he’s a character. I would have liked to hear Julien Poulin and Pierre Falardeau on Trump.
Would they have been able to caricature the caricature even more?
Because Gratton fantasized about this kind of character: a businessman, a symbol of success who shows off his flashy wealth without restraint. And above all who dominates, too bad for the wokes, lousy and other marginalized people.
Gratton would have been very happy to hear about annexing Canada to the States!
Especially since it’s not really a joke anymore.
The next president of the United States has made it clear that he wants to annex us by economic force.
American imperialism is back, or at least its fantasy, above all to ensure the survival of the United States.
Why negotiate with Canada and Greenland to have more access to raw materials if we can simply annex them?
Because, contrary to what Trump claims, the United States needs us: 60% of imported crude oil and 100% of imported natural gas come from Canada. Our subsoil is rich in critical minerals and we have significant drinking water resources.
This appetite also explains his interest in Greenland!
Think about it, he wants to militarily invade a NATO ally!
A very serious joke!
When we see the Trumpist henchmen, the Musks, the Grahams and others laughing like puppets, we unfortunately have to take the threats seriously.
The messages on social networks from Justin Trudeau and Pierre Poilievre are good, but the country must prepare for a trade war.
On which products should tariffs be imposed? Can we block the export of certain others?
It’s difficult to have a game plan because the federal government is soft and weak.
But the dependence of the provinces on Ottawa also demonstrates that our federation is weak.
It’s not normal that only Doug Ford is at the front. It’s up to the provinces to force the federal government to act!
Hands tied by the economy
The most difficult part of our response to Trump’s threats is our great economic dependence.
Geographic proximity, language, free trade, integration over the years has made us very rich, but also vulnerable.
Diversifying our economy towards Europe or India is easier said than done!
We need the Americans, and since the United States is no longer a normal and stable country, we will have to live in turbulence for at least another four years!
Our politics will also depend on Donald Trump.
The response to his threats will be at the heart of the race to replace Justin Trudeau and it will be the question at the federal election ballot box!
When we see to what extent the choice of Americans during their elections has major effects here, perhaps Trump is not so wrong… that Canada is already a bit of an American province.
Do they have the affair with the Americans?
