There are nuggets that remain inexplicably hidden from the eyes of moviegoers. Let’s give thanks to Extralucid Films for bringing “Bernie” back to life, Richard Linklater’s 2011 tragicomedy, with a three-star cast – Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, Matthew McConaughey -, an incredible true story and an astonishing narrative device, between the documenter and the police investigation.

Here, there is no doubt about the identity of the victim and that of the murderer and yet Richard Linklater manages, while entertaining us, to make us think about the notion of justice, a bit like a Texan version of “Anatomy of a fall”. It’s skillful, wonderfully played and morally extremely disturbing as the director of “Boyhood” provokes empathy for “Bernie”, without ever obscuring his dark side.
