The Waze app is getting AI. In 2025, Google’s software has not said its last word. If many had predicted its announced death in favor of Maps, this was without taking into account the attachment of Internet users to the platform launched in 2009. For more than 15 years, crowdsourcing, or participatory operation, has in fact enabled an entire community to cooperate to report incidents on the roads, and allow everyone to improve the service. In 2025, it will be possible to rely on artificial intelligence to further improve the user experience.

Talk to Waze, naturally

This year, Waze will implement the Conversational Reporting to its application. The idea is simple: rather than having to manually report incidents from the screen of your smartphone – which can lead to driver loss of concentration, who takes their eyes off the road for their phone – it will soon be possible to report road accidents. the road in natural language. Concretely, all you have to do is speak to Waze to notify it of an accident or a traffic stop, and the application will take care of the rest.

Behind this new functionality, we find the power of AI by Google Geminiwhich will allow the message delivered to be interpreted, then transcribed into a direct command for the application, creating a real-time report on the card. The AI will not stop at simple reporting, since it will also be able to converse directly with the user to obtain details about the incident, for example by asking to describe the situation precisely, in order to allow other drivers to avoid potential dangers.

Better referenced schools

In addition to voice conversations, the application will also add some new security-related features, particularly regarding school zones. The objective will be to warn drivers of entering a sensitive zone, and to encourage them to take their foot off the accelerator pedal. This will concern the surroundings of schools during opening and closing hours, but also in particularly busy pedestrian areas. On these particular occasions, Waze will send an alert to the screen, reminding it to slow down and pay more attention to possible obstacles surroundings.
