An American won the jackpot: a winning ticket worth $1.22 billion (or approximately 139 billion francs). This is the fifth largest jackpot in history according to the lottery organizer. California seems to bring good luck.

Santa Claus was very generous! An American won $1.22 billion in the lottery on Saturday. His identity has not been revealed and it is unclear whether he knows he has the jackpot ticket and whether he will claim his prize.
The winner can claim the entire prize in annual payments over a 30-year period or opt for a one-off cash payment of $549.7 million (€527 million) before taxes.
The ticket was sold in the state of California, at a gas station in the town of Cottonwood. Mega Millions also revealed the six winning numbers on Friday evening: 3, 7, 37, 49, 55 and 6.
This is the fifth largest jackpot in American lottery history offered by Mega Millions, which sells tickets in 45 states. The largest amount won in the lottery was $2.04 billion (1.956 billion euros). The winning ticket was also sold in California.
