A report from the New Brunswick Comptroller's Office on state employee compensation shows that three doctors billed the province $2 million or more during the fiscal year that ended June 31. March 2024.
Dr. Julien Saad, an ophthalmologist who practices in Dieppe, received payments from the government amounting to between $2,050,000 and $2,099,999 during this period.
Dr. Marie Claude Bourdages, who is a family doctor and director of the Clinique Médicale Access Medical Clinic in Dieppe, received fees ranging from $2,000,000 to $2,049,999 during the same year.
Martin Finnegan, a radiologist from the Moncton region, also received payments amounting to between $2,000,000 and $2,049,999 during the fiscal year.
Drs Saad and Finnegan are used to dominating this ranking of physician remuneration that the provincial government reveals each year and without making too much noise a few days before Christmas.
In total, no less than 58 New Brunswick doctors billed a sum of one million dollars or more during this period, reveals the annual report.
It is worth emphasizing that these payments made by the Ministry of Health for medical services are gross amounts paid to doctors and do not express the net income of doctors.
Thus, these figures do not take into account the sometimes very significant expenses that a doctor must incur in the course of his practice, such as those related to staff salaries, medical equipment and rent.
Keith Cronkhite, the former president and CEO of NB Power, remained the provincial public servant with the most generous compensation offered by the province.
Her salary during the last fiscal year was between $575,000 and $599,999, Lori Clark, the current CEO and senior manager of nuclear operations, pocketed a salary of between $475,000 and $499,999 during the same year.
An overview of the salaries offered to thousands of employees in the province carried out by Acadie Nouvelle showed that at least 12 NB Power employees obtained remuneration of $300,000 or more during this period.
While some may find these salaries a little exaggerated, it is good to know that the head of operations and infrastructure at Hydro-Québec received a base salary of $658,783 in 2024.
