In March, Honda and Nissan announced the start of discussions for the establishment of a strategic partnership, particularly in electric vehicles. A partnership materialized and strengthened in August by the arrival of Mitusbishi, of which Nissan is the majority shareholder. It is now a proposed merger between Japan’s second and third automobile manufacturer, left behind by Toyota, which is shaking up the automobile industry.

Mentioned by the Japanese press on Wednesday, this possibility was confirmed by Honda. The merger project is still in the embryonic stage but if it were to succeed, the entity that would emerge from this merger would become the third largest car seller in the world behind Toyota and Volkswagen with around 8 million vehicles if we refer to 2023 figures.
