As the holidays approach, Belgians scrutinize the contents of their wallets. According to a survey carried out by Cluster 17 for RTL info, 60% of Belgians say that their purchasing power has decreased over the last 12 months. For 75% of Belgians, food is the biggest drain on their budget. Then come the energy bills to honor: electricity and gas are what most affect the budget of 62% of respondents.
In order to keep their budget in balance, most of our compatriots are obliged to make decisions. Thus, 63% have reduced the number of gifts they will give at Christmas. In addition, 57% will reduce their budget allocated to holiday meals (35% will reduce it slightly, 22% drastically).
A study carried out on a representative sample
This study was carried out by Cluster17 with a sample of 1,011 representative of the French-speaking Belgian population aged 18 and over. Among this sample are 301 Brussels residents. The sample is carried out using the quota method, taking into account the criteria of sex, age, socio-professional category, type of municipality and regions of residence. This is an online self-administered questionnaire, the interviews of which were carried out from December 12 to 15, 2024.
