(Keystone-ATS) The UDC and the PLR mainly refused the project. The Center was very divided. All French-speaking people said yes to the support. “The conditions for this aid are completely redefined and clearly tightened,” declared Beat Rieder (Center/VS) for the committee.
The project is intended for foundries whose annual production exceeds 20,000 tonnes of metal, mainly from recycled materials. It plans to exempt them for 4 years from part of the taxes for the use of the network.
The modified project returns to the National Council which will decide on Tuesday. State support for the Swiss steel industry has been debated in recent months. The Stahl Gerlafingen (SO) and Swiss Steel sites in Emmenbrücke (LU) have accumulated economic difficulties.
