Postal workers will return to work on Tuesday, after the decision of the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) which confirmed that the two parties in conflict had been at an impasse since the strike by Canada Post employees.

After two days of hearings, the CIRB ordered the return to work of Canada Post’s 55,000 employees and the gradual resumption of postal operations from 8 a.m., while post offices will remain closed on Monday.

“Although the terms of the current collective agreements are extended until May 22, 2025, we offered staff a 5% salary increase, which was part of the proposals in our last global offer,” Canada Post said in a press release. .

According to the state-owned company, the salary increase will be retroactive to the day after the end date of expired agreements, specifying that the increase will be in effect with immediate effect while the retroactive portion will be paid in two installments before Christmas and before the end of January .

The Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has not yet reacted to the decision to take over the activities of the state corporation, but it strongly criticized Friday the intervention of Minister of Labor Steven MacKinnon, of which it denounced his “arbitrary powers”.
