Since September 2023, only eight requests have been submitted and accepted, for a total amount of 1.25 million euros, indicates DP Minister of the Economy, Lex Delles, in a parliamentary response. However, the intervention envelope decided by the National Credit and Investment Company (SNCI), within the framework of “special anti-crisis construction financing”, amounted to 100 million euros.

This system is aimed at companies specializing in structural work, technical equipment and finishing, “healthy managed, not having been in prior financial difficulties”. Despite the fact that it is difficult to convince, Lex Delles indicates that it will be extended until June 30, 2025. This temporary measure, which was to remain in force until June 30, 2024, had already been extended for the first time until ‘as of December 31, 2024.

Financing is done indirectly through the client’s usual bank – SNCI finances up to 80% of the need, on the condition that the bank finances the balance of 20%. The SNCI, created by a law of 1977, specializes in supporting companies with loans to cover part of the financing of their projects. Its capital is entirely owned by the State.

The Prime Minister, Luc Frieden, has noted, in recent weeks, “a certain recovery” in the housing and construction sectors, “following the measures that the government has taken”. The gradual drop in interest rates can also contribute to this restart of a sector hit hard by the crisis.
