The Swiss population is 82% in favor of a ban on cell phones in schools, a poll by the Sotomo Institute noted on Sunday. Even young people support the measure with 64% of 18-25 year olds in the “yes” camp.

(Keystone-ATS) The approval rate increases with age and women (87%) are more in favor of a ban than men (78%). In addition, support is greater among people who have completed an apprenticeship or left school after compulsory training (86%) than among those with university education (76%).

At the political level, it is the voters of the UDC and the PS who are most strongly behind a ban, with 85% approval. The most skeptical are in the Green Liberal ranks, although with 75% “yes”.

The survey was carried out on behalf of the Berne Generation House (Berner Generationenhaus). Between September and October, 2,754 people over the age of 18 were interviewed in German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland.
