Quebec IT consulting giant CGI laid off 83 workers last Monday during a reorganization aimed at meeting the needs of its clients.
The company would not provide details of its job cuts, but confirmed by email the number of 83 appearing in the layoff notices already public.
More than 5,700 people still work within the company in Quebec and 90,250 worldwide.
This is not the first time that CGI has carried out layoffs at this time of year. Last year, she also thanked 55 people at the beginning of December and 19 others a few months before, in October.
Founded in 1976, CGI is worth $36 billion on the stock market.
Its stock has jumped 14% since the start of the year to reach $158.21.
Last May, Prime Minister François Legault met its founder, Serge Godin.
Contract with the FBI
Last June, The Journal reported that CGI had landed a large contract with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to help it reduce costs by modernizing its systems.
A month earlier, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) announced its intention to sell $400 million worth of CGI shares.
