Brian Thompson was the head of UnitedHealthcare, an American health insurance company. The shooter is still being sought by police.
UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot in the chest on the morning of December 4 outside the Hilton Hotel in Manhattan, New York, according to reports from New York Times.
The police are still looking for the shooter, who fled east on Sixth Avenue in the metropolis, according to a police report consulted by the American daily. He wore a cream-colored jacket, a black mask and a gray backpack. According to police, Brian Thompson may have been deliberately targeted by the attack.
CEO since 2021
The victim was promoted to general manager of UnitedHealthcare in April 2021, heading a unit of the UnitedHealth group, a company he joined in 2004. He lived in Minnesota.
His company, which provides insurance and pharmacy services through several entities, is one of the largest companies in the country; it had declared a turnover of 372 billion dollars in 2023.
