Until last Monday, electric motorcycles and scooters were eligible for aid of up to €900, or even €1,900 for residents of the French Overseas Territories. But it's over. The €900 granted to electric quadricycles (Citroën Ami, Ligier Myli or Microlino) are also going by the wayside. The government has just announced the end of this bonus, with immediate effect. Enough to complete a market almost in agony.
The old amendments to the decree applied from January 1. Generally, rumors allowed manufacturers to set up promotional operations in order to make the most of the aid, but this time, that is not the case.

In fact, the new rules came into force on Monday December 2, 2024. Those who placed an order before this date will still be able to benefit from the aid, provided that the first invoice or the first rent is issued before February 14, 2025. For others, you will have to pay more for the same thing. As a reminder, sales of electric two wheels fell by 25% between 2022 and 2023, to reach 17,391 units. A market that has never been able to take off, due to a lack of more numerous proposals.
Too bad, because machines like the BMW CE 02, the Honda E-M1e or the Ninebot E300 / E110 were excellent proposals for getting around town silently and quickly.
Quadricycles and scrappage bonuses also affected
The end of the ecological bonus is not limited to two-wheelers. Quadricycles also pass there. Thus, the delicious Fiat Topolino and the star of high school students, the Citroën Ami, also see their bonuses removed. The same goes for the scrappage bonus and the aid granted in Low Emission Zones (ZFE). From now on, you will have to pay full price.
A French-style gas factory for electric cars
For electric cars, it is also a severe blow. Starting with electric utilities. Although practical for silently covering the last kilometers in the city without asphyxiating the inhabitants, these pragmatic machines see their bonus simply removed.
For private cars, aid is now indexed to the reference tax income per unit. The amount varies between €2,000 and €4,000. Thus, the 4,000 euros which make up the maximum bonus are valid for income below €16,300 per share. Between €16,301 and €26,200, you will benefit from €3,000. Above that, it will be €2,000.
This measure, announced in a context of budgetary restrictions, marks a turning point for support for electric mobility in France, while raising concerns for the development of alternative solutions to thermal engines. Especially since the prices of electric two-wheelers are often much higher than their thermal counterparts.
