DFDS finally won the service to Jersey from France and England, against the offer of Condor Ferries/Brittany Ferries.
This will mark the end of almost 60 years of service to Jersey by Condor Ferries (now part of Brittany Ferries). The government of the Channel Island announced on the evening of Wednesday December 3 that it had selected DFDS after the second call for tenders, launched a little over two weeks ago, following the failure of the first . The public service delegation contract covers the period 2025-40.
In a communication, the government explains that the choice of DFDS should mean “a greater frequency of rotations to the United Kingdom and France during peak periods, faster ferries to the United Kingdom, three new ferries in the six years to come, and two dedicated fast ferries in summer. The identity of the ships allocated to the different lines is not known, but the Seven Sisters operated by DFDS France came to carry out bridge tests in Saint-Helier at the end of September. The rotation schedule should be announced in the coming days.
The neighboring island of Guernsey, for its part, renewed Condor Ferries at the end of October following the initial call for tenders.
