New noise-cancelling radars, embedded in cars or fixed, will be installed in various French departments from 2025 with the aim of reducing noise pollution affecting local residents.

A novelty that should make motorists react. New noise reduction radars, embedded in cars or in fixed cabins, will be installed in several departments in from next spring with the aim of reducing noise pollution affecting local residents.

According to Les Échos, these devices, called “jellyfish” radars because of their design, recently reached a new stage in the approval process before entering service announced next spring.

These radars, developed by Bruitparif, bear the name “Hydre” and have already proven themselves abroad. Among our Swiss neighbors, tests were conclusive on four road sections in Geneva. These cabins are currently in the testing phase in several pilot areas such as , , , the Chevreuse valley and Rueil-Malmaison.

This new device will mainly target two-wheelers, trucks and noisy vehicles, as well as motorists who abuse the horn or have a modified exhaust. These devices will measure the sound volume and the precise origin of the nuisance using a combination of microphones and cameras.
