A 15% increase in traffic was recorded.

A survey carried out by the Montreal organization also revealed a satisfaction rate of 91.1% among its users. Members said they appreciated the simplicity, the proximity of the stations and the price of the service.

“This success confirms that services adapted to the needs of citizens sustainably transform their travel habits: that an increase in supply also rhymes with an increase in use,” rejoices Marianne Giguère, associate advisor for active transport at the City of Montreal.

BIXI continues its expansion

For a second year, BIXI is getting into winter cycling: 200 stations will remain in service until April. 2,000 bicycles will be adapted to allow cyclists to travel despite the cold season.

From November 16 to April 14, 93,000 users used BIXI services; 65% of them were testing winter cycling for the first time.

BIXI Montréal also highlights the success of its first Carrefour BIXI. In La Park, in addition to 66 anchor points, users could have access from July to a self-service repair terminal, an air pump and bicycle mechanics. The initiative made it possible to carry out around a hundred interventions per day, according to the organization, which aims to deploy three new intersections in the metropolis in 2025.

BIXI’s success extends beyond the island of Montreal. Already established in Longueuil, , Boucherville and Terrebonne, BIXI has extended its network to Sainte-Julie (Montérégie) which has acquired five stations. Longueuil should install 22 new stations in 2025 and Laval, 49 stations, tripling its workforce.

“It is with enthusiasm that we see a growing interest in BIXI in a growing number of cities,” declares Christian Vermette, general manager of BIXI Montreal. The city of Sherbrooke should notably have self-service bicycles from 2025.
