On the occasion of the Olympic Games scheduled from July 26 to August 11, 2024 in Paris, the Australian company Qantas is opening a new Paris-Perth line. Thus, Australians wishing to travel to Paris during this period will be able to do so without an intermediate stopover from the West Australian metropolis. With a flight duration of 16 to 18 hours, this new route will mark the longest flight from the French capital.

Paris served from Perth during the Olympic Games

The airline Qantas has launched a new connection between Paris and Perth on the occasion of the 2024 Olympic Games. Indeed, according to Le Point, this new connection will be operational from Saturday July 13, 2024 with four round trips per week, including three after Olympic Games.

The first non-stop flight from Perth is expected at 6:55 a.m. at Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle 2A. Three hours later, it will leave for Australia. Thanks to this new feature, French and Australian passengers will be able to avoid stopovers in London, Dubai or Singapore, an advantage that allows them to save at least three hours.

It is important to know that the flight times for Paris-Perth are approximately 16 hours and 30 minutes, and approximately 17 hours and 20 minutes for Perth-Paris. Indeed, it is due to the winds and jet streams hitting from west to east that this difference of approximately one hour occurs during the journey to Perth.

According to the same source, the longest flight today from Paris is the one serving Santiago in Chile with 14 hours 25 for 11,640 km. However, in mid-July, the Paris-Perth flight showing between 16 and 18 hours for 14,300 km, will become the longest from Paris, while waiting for the realization of the Paris-Sydney project planned for mid-2026 with almost 3,000 km more.

Qantas prepares for new route

To ensure such a flight, Qantas currently relies on its small fleet of Boeing 787-9 belonging to the Dreamliner family of aircraft which also serve London and Rome, pending the arrival of 12 Airbus A350-1000ULR, Ultra Long Range versions, from 2026.

Indeed, the reinforced crew of the 787 has four pilots and twelve stewardesses who alternate and rest in specialized spaces. As for the cabins of the 787-9 in service on Europe, they have only 236 seats compared to nearly 300 in the low-cost version.

These are divided into three spaces: 166 Economy seats, 42 armchair beds in Business class and 28 Premium Economy seats. For a round trip in Economy class, it costs from 1,700 euros, and 7,000 euros in Business.

During the flight, two main meals are served and snacks are available on request at any time during the flight. French gastronomy is notably honored by the Australian chef and Artistic Director of Food Beverage & Service of Qantas, Neil Perry. For flights from Paris, meals are prepared by Newrest.

Finally, for business class passengers, limited edition pajamas by Martin Grant, Australian designer, and French-designed toiletry bags will be offered.
