The ecological penalty will tighten in 2025. If the finance bill has not yet been voted on, it is unlikely that this component will be modified to be lighter. Which means that future buyers of the Renault Captur will pay more next year. We take stock of the versions concerned and the amounts to be paid.
At the time of writing, the SUV is available in three engines:
- a 90 horsepower gasoline engine, TCe 90
- a 100 horsepower gasoline + LPG engine, ECO-G 100
- a 145 horsepower hybrid gasoline engine, E-Tech Full hybrid 145
Of these three engines, there is only the E-Tech hybrid version which escapes the ecological penalty for 2025. In fact, it only emits 105g de CO2 / km. This allows it not to be affected by the penalty next year as well as in 2026. On the other hand, the scale planned for 2027 lowers its threshold to 99 grams.
You will have understood it, the TCe 90 gasoline engine et LPG engine are affected by the 2025 penalty. The first issues 133 grammes when the second releases 120 grams of CO2 / kilometer.
How much will need to be added to the bill?
Referring to the 2025 scale currently in force, €210 will need to be added to the Renault Captur in its LPG version. Count 818 euros for the TCe 90 gasoline engine in its entry-level Evolution finish. If we refer to the information published by Renault, the same engine emits one gram less on the Techno finish. Which brings the penalty down to €740.
Motorization | CO2 emissions/km | Amount of the penalty in 2025 |
---|---|---|
TCe 90 (Techno finish) | 132g | 740€ |
TCe 90 (Evolution finish) | 133g | 818€ |
ECO-G 100 | 120g | 210€ |
A retroactive penalty for used cars from 2026?
Note that motorists are clearly not celebrating in this 2025 budget. Because in addition to the increase in the ecological penalty – which had been planned for a long time – aid for the purchase of an electric car will drastically decrease. In fact, the conversion bonus will disappear while the amount of the ecological bonusset at €4,000 in 2024, should decrease despite the reluctance of the automotive industry. If social leasing returns in 2025, it will be under a modified formula and therefore significantly less advantageous for the motorists concerned.
But what has just come out may make some people cringe. The government plans for 2026 the entry into force of an ecological penalty for used cars. Basically, if when buying new your car was exempt from the penalty (large family, disabled person), the new owner will have to pay this. There remain many gray areas such as the scale to be applied for example.
