“The question of the efficiency of the invested budget arises? Despite the implementation of numerous initiatives and mechanisms, no concrete solution has yet made it possible to remedy the numerous issues raised. There is no other alternative than to make a radical change by reforming the employment landscape in Wallonia, which is what the orientation note aims to do,” he insisted.
Concretely, the latter plans to accelerate and intensify support for job seekers who will be empowered through intensive monitoring and active control of their availability.
The role of each operator will also be clarified and the training offer will be structured to meet the needs of businesses and fill labor shortages.
Unemployment up slightly in Brussels with a rate of 14.7%
The Forem, whose management contract will be reviewed, will be equipped with efficient digital tools, with the planned deployment of a real single file. At the same time, monitoring and key performance indicators will be put in place.
“One of the challenges, in accordance with the Regional Policy Declaration, will be to increase the participation of job seekers in vocational training in order to increase their level of qualification and promote rapid and sustainable integration into the labor market, while putting an end to the mire of certain populations in unemployment”, summarized Pierre-Yves Jeholet.
“This orientation note is ambitious, the projects are numerous but the desire is common: to activate job seekers more quickly and sustainably on the labor market, respond effectively to the problem of professions in shortage, improve training with regard to needs of businesses and redefine the roles of different operators for better cooperation and support for job seekers,” he added.
But for the minister, these measures – some of which will come into force from 2025 – can only be effective “if a change in mentality takes place: job seekers must be aware that they are the primary driver of their own success in the labor market.” And if the message still does not get through, “sanctions will be planned. Today, they exist, but they are too rare”, finally warned Pierre-Yves Jeholet.
