Quebec confirms that a ministerial decree will prevent optometrists from leaving the public system. Since October, the latter have been threatening to slam the door on RAMQ in the hope of putting pressure on the government of François Legault with whom they are in negotiations.

As first reported in Dutythe order is for six months, renewable twice, for a total period of up to 18 months.

While waiting for the discussions to end, children and the elderly should not bear the brunt of the negotiations says the office of Minister of Health Christian Dubé. The ministerial decree will protect vulnerable customers (children, 65 years and over, income security recipients) from union pressure tactics. Services must be offered to vulnerable patients during negotiations.
