After largely financing Donald Trump’s campaign, Elon Musk was appointed to head a Department of Government Effectiveness with businessman Vivek Ramaswamy. But what is his political agenda? Boris Manenti, author of “Elon Musk, the barker”, launches leads in Point J.

Elon Musk, head of Tesla, X and SpaceX, invested more than $100 million in Donald Trump’s campaign before even joining the presidential team. Was the idea to favor the candidate who would then favor his companies?

“There is a very simple and very cynical calculation. Elon Musk wants to sell as many electric vehicles as possible in the United States. And the conversion from a thermal car to an electric car is subsidized. This would continue if the Democrats were elected” , explains Boris Manenti. “On the other hand, the Republicans, and in particular Donald Trump, were quite critical. By rallying Donald Trump, Elon Musk was able to influence the policy of the next administration. Moreover, Musk’s companies are under the influence of around twenty investigations by different federal agencies, for example on the safety of Tesla vehicles, on the environmental damage of SpaceX rockets”, adds Boris Manenti.

Elon Musk wants to transmit a very conservative ideology

In addition to these economic calculations, the businessman has political ambitions. “He has an ideology that he wants to transmit, a really very conservative ideology, which in Europe we would simply describe as extreme right.”

Artificial intelligence, war in Ukraine, space conquest, immigration, minority rights… what can it have a real influence on? How long can the honeymoon between Donald Trump and Elon Musk last?
