End of unemployment insurance and senior employment negotiations: the CGT consults its organizations
  • An unemployment insurance agreement that worsens the November 2023 agreementparticularly targeting 53 to 57 year olds who lose 4.5 months of compensation, and cross-border workers, victims conveniently designated as privileged because they have worked on Swiss, Luxembourg and Belgian salaries. This agreement provides for some improvements for seasonal workers and first-time job seekers, but 6 times more reductions than increases in total, from April 1, 2025, and a reduction in employer contributions from May 1, 2025
  • An agreement on the employment of seniors which is limited to good intentionseven if we obtained negotiations on compulsory themes in the branches, but not the enforceability of access to progressive retirement; employees of small companies will therefore be the big losers and as today, progressive retirement will be limited to large companies in which the unions manage to win agreements. The ANI establishes a sort of senior permanent contract (“experience enhancement contract”), which constitutes a windfall effect for the employer, exempt from contributions on the severance pay and can dismiss the employee upon retirement age.
  • An agreement asking the government to remove the limitation of three union mandates, a demand carried by the CGT

The CGT, which made obtaining a real right to progressive retirement the determining element of these negotiations, regrets that no tangible progress has been made on this point.

A first analysis shows a flagrant imbalance between the rights lost, in the midst of a massive wave of layoffs, as a result of the 2023 pension reform, for too few rights gained.

The CGT launched the democratic consultation of its constituent organizations, based on the analysis of the delegations: negative opinions for the first two agreements and positive for the third.

She will announce her decision on December 3 at the end of the consultation.
