SpaceX successfully launches its Starship megarocket but fails to recover its first stage, which ends up at sea

The megarocket took off on Tuesday from the company's Starbase in Boca Chica, as President-elect Donald Trump looked on.

SpaceX's Starship megarocket took off this Tuesday during a new test flight, in the presence of company boss Elon Musk and President-elect Donald Trump, who took advantage of the event to display their new closeness.

But the Super Heavy first stage (70 meters high) of the rocket, which was to return to earth by falling into the giant mechanical arms of its launch tower according to SpaceX, ended its course in the sea, announced the American company . This complex maneuver, which should make this rocket fully reusable, was successful for the first time during the previous test flight last month.

SpaceX aims to use Starship, the world's largest and most powerful rocket, to colonize Mars. The development of the spacecraft is also closely monitored by NASA, which is counting on it to bring its astronauts back to the Moon.

The takeoff from the company's Starbase in Boca Chica, Texas, was the sixth test flight. The objectives will be largely similar to the previous test, last month, which was successful. The rocket consisted of the Super Heavy first stage (70 meters high) and, above it, the Starship (50 m), which by extension gives its name to the entire launcher.
