The company Solaris Bus & Coach (owned by the CAF group, which built the trains for the Liège tram) announced on its Facebook page that it was going to deliver 45 Urbino 24 type articulated electric buses to the TEC, to power public transport in Cork. The first order includes 18 buses in an impressive MetroStyle design. The first 5 buses will arrive in 2025 and the next 13 in 2026. This is a market worth 120 million euros.
These are the new vehicles which will be intended for future Busway lines, the four high level of service bus lines.
Each of the 24-meter electric buses will be powered by two electric axles. Energy will be provided by new generation Solaris High Energy batteries, with a total capacity of approximately 800 kWh per vehicle. These energy storage units will be charged via a plug-in connection.
The buses will be equipped with several driver assistance systems, including a 270° camera system monitoring the area around the bus and enhanced visibility cameras in place of rear-view mirrors. The buses will offer 50 seats and passengers will have access to USB chargers for their mobile devices. Modern LED lighting will be installed throughout the vehicle.
