The election for “Car of the Year 2025” is in full swing and among the 41 models initially in competition, an Italian car stood out: the Alfa Romeo Junior. While the Fiat Grande Panda, Maserati GranTurismo and Maserati Grecale were also in the race, only the Junior made the list of seven finalists. A look back at this announcement and the assets that make the Junior a serious contender for the title.
The Alfa Romeo Junior: a finalist with a strong character
Compact, sporty and (half) Italian, the Alfa Romeo Junior embodies the rebirth of the brand under Stellantis. It won over the jury (made up of 60 automotive journalists from 23 European countries) with its dynamic design, faithful to the Alfa Romeo style, while integrating cutting-edge technologies.
With 42 models initially in the running, the competition promised to be tough. The list of 7 finalists includes references such as the Renault 5 E-Tech, the Citroën ë-C3/C3 and the Cupra Tavascan, all vehicles which embody the future of automobiles.
A historic moment for Alfa Romeo
It’s been a long time since an Alfa Romeo reached this stage of the competition. LThe last one to win the title of “Car of the Year” was the 147, in 2001. Without forgetting the Alfa Romeo 156 in 1998 before it. Today, with the Junior, Alfa Romeo is making a comeback, flying the Italian colors high in a competition dominated by European and Asian manufacturers.
See you at the Brussels Motor Show
The name of the winner will be revealed on January 10, 2025, during the Brussels International Motor Show. Until then, the Alfa Romeo Junior and its six competitors will be subjected to dynamic tests and in-depth analyses. If the Junior wins the title, it will join the pantheon of Italian cars that have marked the history of this competition.
