Macron and Barnier facing the danger of the social crisis

The unemployment rate is no longer falling, in fact it is increasing again. Slightly enough at this stage (7.4%) for INSEE to mention in its third quarter statement a “quasi stable” level over one year. However, clouds are gathering over the French economy, putting the executive under pressure at a time when the examination of the 2025 budget reveals significant divergences in the economic choices to be defended. Rising business failures, poor health of the German and Chinese economies, the return of customs barriers emerging following the election of Donald Trump, high costs of European energy… The French are not mistaken: 84 % of them say they are more worried about the employment situation in France in recent weeks, i.e. 18 points more than in 2018 according to the latest wave of the Odoxa-Backbone Consulting survey for Le Figaro.
