369 euros: this is what you, motorists, are likely to pay for the overhaul of your car. An average up 7.64% according to the online comparator IdGarage, specializing in quotes for maintenance services, at the origin of its figures. But the one who publishes his annual 2024 barometer of automobile repair prices takes the opportunity to remind us that obviously, all cars are not in the same boat. The opportunity to publish its ranking of the cheapest, but also the most expensive, vehicles to currently maintain in France. To achieve this, the site was able to rely on less than 2 million quotes, established in some 4,000 garages across France. And you will see, prices can go from single to double! Obviously, we are only talking about “general public” cars here, not supercars whose maintenance can easily reach sums in 4 figures before the decimal point…
The 3 cheapest cars to maintain…
Let's start with the cheapest vehicles to maintain, among the 50 vehicles that came up the most in the price comparison. And on the third step of the podium, we find the Citroën C3 Phase 1 (2002-2005), the one which precedes the version affected by the recall, for which you have to pay on average €267.83 for a service (drain, change of oil, air, diesel filters, spark plugs for gasoline, vehicle inspection and fluid leveling). Second on the podium, the Volkswagen Polo V Phase 1 (2009-2014), with a ticket at €250.68. And on the top step, the Fiat Panda II (2003-2012). What you have to remember is that if they are cheaper than the others to maintain, it is in particular because they have less electronics, and are easier to repair. Furthermore, the availability of spare parts works in their favor.
- Fiat Panda “2” : €241.01
- Volkswagen Polo “5”: €250.68
- Citroën C3 “1” : €267.83
…and the 3 most expensive cars!
At the other end of the spectrum, here are the models classified as the most expensive to maintain by IdGarages. And you will see, compared to those we have just reviewed, the price is almost double! Thus the Peugeot 208 II, the current one sold since 2019, comes in 3rd position with an average price of €398.74. We then cross the €400 mark at €406.31 for the Renault Vegane IV produced between 2016 and 2020, a higher range because it is a compact. And the one that takes first place is the Peugeot 206 (1998-2009) with a price that explodes at €452.04. If we understand that for the 208 and Mégane, the fact that they are more recent, with more electronics and on-board technologies, works to their disadvantage, on the other hand for the 206, the result is more surprising!
- Peugeot 206 : 452,04 €
- Renault Mégane “4”: €406.31
- Peugeot 208 “2” : 398,74 €
