Norwegian road freight transport detailed by the CNR

For the first time, the CNR was interested in the Norwegian pavilion. Outside the EU but in the European Economic Area (EEA), TRM activities are essentially national (for 91% of road transport). Note that the country favors EMS type vehicles to better integrate into the market of its Swedish neighbor.

The CNR also looked into the working conditions of drivers. Above all, they benefit from a “generous sectoral collective agreement”. The monthly salary observed by the CNR exceeds €4,500/month gross. Despite the low level of social security contributions, among the lowest in Europe with 14% for the employer and 7.9% for the employee, the annual cost of the Norwegian driver reaches a record level of €71,774, or 44. €01 per hour of driving or €0.69 per kilometer.

Mega trucks are part of the road landscape in Norway. According to the CNR, the total cost of a 60-tonne Norwegian EMS set assigned internationally is estimated at €230,464, or €1.92 per kilometer. Relative to the tonne transported, this cost is comparable to that of a 40 tonne Belgian set, but lower than the French, Italian or Dutch cost. “These vehicles are expensive, but their advantage goes beyond the economic logic of massification of goods” comments the CNR.

Norway has 7,658 transport companies and 29,046 employees. Among these companies, a very large majority would be very small, between 1 and 3 vehicles, part of which is inactive. Some of the companies presenting themselves as carriers and recognized as such are in reality transport agents, owners of no motor vehicle.
