According to Minister Nguyên Manh Hùng, e-commerce arises from digital technology, which inevitably creates problems. The best way to solve them is to use technology to mitigate the negative aspects associated with e-commerce.

We must consider digital technology as the main management lever in cyberspace”, shared the minister, emphasizing three fundamental pillars for this management: the digital framework, digital tools and the digital skills of citizens. While e-commerce is growing at an annual rate of 20% to 30%, the development of the digital framework, digital tools and skills is lagging behind.

Therefore, it is imperative to accelerate these aspects, especially the rapid deployment of digital tools. These will include software that can spot misleading advertising or counterfeit products.

The minister stressed that digital platforms and e-commerce sites could develop artificial intelligence algorithms to scan, filter and block accounts as well as sources of illicit advertising.

Vietnam benefits from a large number of excellent digital companies capable of developing such software. The Ministry of Information and Communication, in collaboration with technology companies, will support the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in the development of tools to manage and boost the e-commerce sector.”said Mr. Hùng.

Protection of personal data, an essential priority

Regarding the protection of personal data, the minister emphasizes that this individual information is considered the most valuable personal property for each individual. Therefore, securing and properly storing this data are essential priorities. The ministry has launched various initiatives aimed at countering scams and data leaks, such as names, addresses, telephone numbers, and credit card information, which could be misused without citizens’ consent.

To strengthen online trust, the ministry has set up an ecosystem evaluating and certifying secure websites. More than 5,000 official sites have been awarded trust marks, while a list of fraudulent addresses has been published to raise awareness.

Additionally, the ministry has successfully developed a tool allowing citizens to scan their computers for malware, check whether their personal information has been compromised, and identify fraudulent websites through the khonggianmang.vn portal.

An online security guide has also been developed to educate citizens on good information security practices when engaging in cyberspace and transacting online.

The Ministry of Information and Communication will work closely with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to implement these measures in the field of e-commerce.”declared Minister Nguyên Manh Hùng.
