Menus at low prices: a very, very rare discount this week in grocery stores!

In order to help our readers cope with, among other things, the repercussions of rising food prices, our new collaborator Myriam Gendron, creator of the site Simply eatoffers a low-cost menu every week based on the best grocery discounts of the week.

Week of November 7 to 13

We can find broccoli from Quebec on the shelves again… but not for much longer! The season is coming to an end. At $1.50, it’s time to stock up for winter.

The easiest way to preserve it is to freeze it in florets. Dip the broccoli cut into florets in boiling water for three minutes, then immediately in iced water to stop the cooking. This is what will preserve its color, flavor and maximum texture when frozen.

I recommend freezing them flat on a baking sheet and then transferring them to a bag or container. The florets will not stick together and it will be easier to only take the desired quantity when the time comes.

Happy cooking!

OVERVIEW OF FLYERS

There’s plenty to fill your basket without breaking the bank, whether it’s fruits and vegetables, proteins or even basic products. Moreover, pork lovers will be served: it can be found at low prices in all its forms!

One discount particularly caught my attention: the boneless turkey breasts at Metro… which are the same price as chicken breasts! This is very, very, rare! If it’s a protein you love, or even would like to serve during the holidays, now is the time to stock up in the freezer.

Otherwise, a quick reminder that ground meats which are a mixture of fresh and frozen (or defrosted) parts must always be cooked before returning to the freezer.

GOOD TO KNOW

Here I suggest using a salmon fillet weighing just over a pound (instead of 1 1⁄2 pounds). Legumes bring a good dose of protein to the dish and will extend your portion of salmon very well without leaving you hungry! Again, you can simply replace the cherry tomatoes with large diced tomatoes.
